Whistler Lung Function Measurement Instrument In cooperation with UMC-Utrecht a hand held lung function measurement instrument is developed, which is capable of diagnosing the lung functions of patients between 0 – 99 yrs. For adults spirometry is normally used to detect anomalies in the lungs and airways. This measurement principle is however not suited for young children and babies. The method for measuring lung functionality of babies is called SOT ( Single Occlusion Technique), and for small children Rint ( internal resistance measurement). The available instruments on the market are only capable to handle one of the mentioned measuring methods, most of them are large and costly. The LFMI is capable of handling all three kinds of measuring methods and with an easy user interface this tool is not only suited for medical specialists but also for the general user.
